Best Time to Visit Kashmir: A Month-by-Month Guide

Kashmir rewards visitors in every season, but the experience changes dramatically depending on when you go. This guide breaks down what to expect month by month, based on years of driving these routes.
March to May: Spring
Tulip Garden blooms in late March/April, Dal Lake is at its greenest, and hill roads to Gulmarg and Pahalgam are fully open. This is a strong shoulder season with fewer crowds than peak summer.
June to August: Summer & Yatra Season
Peak season for Sonmarg, Pahalgam and the Amarnath Yatra. The Srinagar–Leh highway is open, but expect heavier traffic on Yatra dates — book your taxi a few days ahead during this window.
September to November: Autumn
Chinar trees turn gold across Srinagar. Roads are clear and this is one of the best photography windows of the year.
December to February: Winter
Gulmarg gets serious snowfall and becomes a skiing destination. Sonmarg and higher passes typically close; Srinagar city and Pahalgam remain accessible with winter-tyre-fitted vehicles.
Our recommendation
If you want meadows and gardens, go April–June or September–October. If you want snow sports, go late December through February and stick to Gulmarg.
